Professional golfer Tommy Gainey, who has one career PGA Tour victory and over $5.6 million in career earnings, was arrested in Florida on Sunday in a prostitution and human-trafficking sting, multiple media outlets reported.
Gainey, who is known by the nickname “Two Gloves” because he wears gloves on both hands while he plays, was one of 124 arrested in what was reported by Golf Week to be a “major” sting operation labeled “Operation Santa’s Naughty List.”
An exchange between Gainey and an undercover police officer was caught on video, TMZ Sports reported.
Gainey faces misdemeanor first-degree misdemeanor solicitation charges, according to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.
The 44-year-old Gainey is a resident of Hartsfield, S.C., and turned professional in 1997. He made his way onto the PGA Tour in 2008 and won the 2012 McGladrey Classic at Sea Island’s Seaside Course in St. Simons, Ga.
In nine PGA Tour events over the past two seasons, Gainey has missed the cut six times and has not finished better than a tie for 36th place.
