The Dallas Stars reportedly have placed right winger Valeri Nichushkin on unconditional waivers for the purpose of buying out the final year of his contract.
Nichushkin, 24, signed a two-year, $5.9 million deal before the start of last season. But he struggled badly to produce in the offensive zone, finishing the campaign with zero goals and 10 assists in 57 games. He took 65 shots on net without scoring.
In 223 career games, Nichushkin has 74 points (23 goals, 51 assists). He scored 14 goals as a teenage rookie in 2013-14.
Dallas went 43-32-7 last season but lost to the St. Louis Blues in the second round of the playoffs.
