Russian U.N. ambassador: peace in Syria 'is almost an impossible task now'

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Russia’s U.N. ambassador, Vitaly Churkin, told the Security Council on Sunday that peace in Syria was “almost an impossible task now.”

Russia and the United States, who back opposing sides in the Syrian civil war, have been trying to salvage a ceasefire deal that effectively collapsed after an aid convoy was hit last week.
