"Star Trek" veteran Kate Mulgrew joins "Mercy"

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Former “Star Trek: Voyager” captain Kate Mulgrew has been cast on NBC’s fall drama “Mercy.”

Mulgrew will play Jeannie Flanagan, the mother of the show’s lead, Veronica (Taylor Schilling). The series about a group of nurses and their relationships is in the vein of a less wacky “Grey’s Anatomy.”

In other casting news:

- Jesse Williams (“The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2”) will appear on several episodes of ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy.” Details about the character are under wraps, but it is understood that he is a confidant new medical professional.

- Joshua Leonard (“The Blair Witch Project”) has landed a recurring role as “boho-trustifarian” Ricky on Season 2 of Showtime’s “United States of Tara.”

- Mido Hamada (“State of Mind”) has booked a recurring role on Fox’s “24” playing Mehran, the leader of a group of operatives in an Islamic country working against their president.
