Trump to meet with New York, New Jersey leaders on tunnel project: sources

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump is set to meet with New York and New Jersey state and congressional officials, including Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer, at the White House on Thursday about the “Gateway Project” to build a new tunnel under the Hudson River, two sources confirmed on Wednesday.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie have been invited to the meeting.

In July, a House panel backed an additional $900 million in new funding for the $24 billion planned Gateway rail project to build a new train tunnel under the Hudson River near New York City. The project would also repair the existing, century-old tunnel between New York and New Jersey before it becomes unusable in the next decade.
