UK'S ex-PM Brown says he is a suspected phone hacking victim

LONDON (Reuters) - Police have confirmed that Britain’s former Prime Minister Gordon Brown was a possible victim of phone hacking, his spokeswoman said on Monday.

“The family has been shocked by the level of criminality and the unethical means by which personal details have been obtained,” his spokeswoman said in a statement.

“The police have confirmed Mr Brown is on Glen Mulcaire’s list. And sometime ago Mr Brown passed all relevant evidence he had to the police.”

Mulcaire was a private investigator at the center of the News of the World phone hacking scandal.

Earlier on Monday, media reports suggested reporters from News International, owned by News Corp, had tried to access his voicemail, obtain information from his bank account and access his family’s medical records.
