DETROIT (Reuters) - The Detroit Lions snapped a 19-game losing streak by holding on to beat the Washington Redskins 19-14 on Sunday and record their first victory in nearly two years.
The last time Lions fans celebrated a win was on December 23, 2007, against Kansas City Chiefs.
Only 40,890 -- the smallest crowd ever for an NFL game at Ford Field -- witnessed the victory with a league-mandated television blackout in effect because the game was not a sell-out.
Rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford, taken by Detroit with the number one pick in last year’s draft, threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Bryant Johnson and Maurice Morris rushed for another while the Lions defense fought off a fourth-quarter Redskins comeback to end the drought.
