WINNIPEG, Manitoba (Reuters) - The Winnipeg Jets have signed captain Andrew Ladd to a new contract following a season where the forward set career highs in goals and points, the National Hockey League (NHL) team said on Tuesday.

Details of the agreement were not disclosed by the team but according to local media reports it is worth $22 million over five years.

Ladd, who was captain of the Atlanta Thrashers when the franchise was sold to True North Sports and Entertainment and relocated to Winnipeg last month, posted a career-best 29 goals and 59 points last season.

Taken with the fourth overall pick by Carolina in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Ladd won a Stanley Cup in his rookie season with the Hurricanes and another four seasons later with the Chicago Blackhawks.

The 25-year-old left winger has 92 goals and 208 points in 402 games over six NHL seasons with Carolina, Chicago and Atlanta.
