Idle Penguins secure playoff spot

PITTSBURGH (Reuters) - The idle Pittsburgh Penguins secured a playoff spot for the fifth consecutive season on Saturday after the Tampa Bay Lightning’s 4-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Pittsburgh (44-23-8), who won the Stanley Cup in 2009, hold a 16-point advantage over ninth-placed Carolina in the Eastern Conference with seven games remaining in the regular season.

The Penguins are currently second in the Atlantic division with 96 points, trailing the division and conference leading Philadelphia Flyers by four points.
