WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department is part of the ongoing investigation into the BP Plc oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Attorney General Eric Holder said on Monday, though a U.S. official said it was not a criminal probe.
“We are part of an ongoing monitoring (effort) and investigation along with our partners at DHS and other agencies that are involved,” Holder told reporters after a speech on efforts to combat human trafficking.
A Justice Department official said afterward that it was not a criminal probe at this stage.
