Israeli navy takes control of activist boat off Gaza

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - The Israeli navy intercepted and took control of a ship carrying pro-Palestinian activists and aid to the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, a military spokeswoman said.

“They have taken control of the boat,” the spokeswoman said after Israeli troops boarded the vessel at sea.

Israeli military sources said there was no violence after the small ferry, sailing from Cyprus with activists from the U.S.-based Free Gaza Movement, was intercepted off Gaza. The Israeli navy maintains a blockade of the Gaza Strip, territory ruled by the Islamist Hamas movement.
