Khartoum airport closed after ammunition blast

KHARTOUM (Reuters) - Khartoum’s international airport was closed on Saturday after a large Sudanese army truck full of ammunition exploded nearby in the capital on Saturday, passengers said.

Former Reuters correspondent Irwin Arieff said the steward on his KLM flight announced the safety of the aircraft could not be guaranteed because of shrapnel in the area.

“We could see balls of fire in the distance,” he said.
