Israeli film "A Matter of Size" good fit for remake

CANNES, France (Hollywood Reporter) - Dimension Films is going sumo.

The company has acquired English-language remake rights to Israeli sumo wrestling movie “A Matter of Size.”

The film, which debuted at last month’s Tribeca Film Festival, centers on an overweight Israeli employee of a Japanese eatery who is turned on to the world of sumo wrestling by several co-workers, and discovers that his weight can be an advantage.

The comedy-drama, co-directed by Erez Tadmor and Sharon Maymon, was a breakout hit among attendees and media at the New York fest.

Dimension chief Bob Weinstein called the film “touching and funny” and “a relatable story that will translate for American audiences.”

Two remakes of Israeli movies are on tap from other distributors: Miramax will soon release the John Madden-directed thriller “The Debt,” and Overture is developing the dark comedy “92 Minutes.”
