"Greenberg" actress Temple lands three indie roles

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Juno Temple, who appears opposite Ben Stiller in “Greenberg,” has booked three roles that position her as an indie actress to watch.

First, the 21-year-old Temple joins the ensemble cast of “Dirty Girl,” the drama from Killer Films in which she plays the title character, a notorious high school slut who runs away with her closeted gay classmate to drive from Oklahoma to California to find the father she’s never met.

Milla Jovovich, William H. Macy, Dwight Yoakam and Mary Steenburgen round out the cast of the movie, which Abe Sylvia is directing from his own script.

Temple then segues to “Goodnight Moon,” a drama from writer-director Elgin James, in which she’ll star opposite AnnaSophia Robb. The film centers on two girls who find themselves in trouble after they run away to Los Angeles; the roles were highly sought in the indie world for that age bracket.

Finally, Temple will turn to “Jack & Diane,” a love story between two teenage girls, one of whom occasionally turns into a werewolf as a representation of all-consuming love and desire. Bradley Rust Gray wrote the script and is directing the drama, which is not billed as a horror movie.

Of Temple, James said: “She taught me a lot about the character that I created on paper. This is what Peter Jackson must have felt like when he worked with Kate Winslet in ‘Heavenly Creatures.’ It’s that feeling you’re working with a talent that is going to break out.”

Jen Gatien, one of the producers of “Jack & Diane,” said Temple’s name was submitted after Ellen Page, who was attached to the movie, dropped out.

“Those were big shoes to fill, but when we met her, we and the director knew instantly,” Gatien said. “She looks like she’s from the East Village and has this angelic quality to her. We had to firm down our schedule so she’d be in the film because we knew she was in demand.”

British-born Temple appeared in “Atonement” and the comedy “Year One.”
