Tesoro says sixth refinery fire victim dies

HOUSTON (Reuters) - A sixth victim of an April 2 fire at Tesoro Corp’s Anacortes, Washington, refinery died on Tuesday, a company spokesman said.

Spokesman Lynn Westfall said the worker, one of two hospitalized with severe burns since the fire, died early Tuesday. The seventh victim remains in a Seattle hospital.

Tesoro on Monday announced that it would shut the 120,000 barrel-per-day (bpd) refinery indefinitely because of the shut down of hydroprocessing equipment after the deadly fire. The shutdown will begin later this month.

The company will increase output at its refineries in Alaska, Hawaii, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City and San Francisco to keep customers supplied.

The fire erupted from a heat exchanger in a naphtha hydrotreater.
