LONDON (Reuters Life!) - The star of hit U.S. television series “Ugly Betty” has had her smile insured for $10 million by British insurance firm Lloyd’s.
The company said the policy for America Ferrara -- who plays dorky assistant Betty Suarez in the show -- was bought by home teeth-whitening product Aquafresh White Trays as part of a promotion to raise money for U.S. charity Smiles for Success.
“It’s very flattering to have my smile insured for $10 million, it’s not something that I ever imagined happening,” Ferrara, 23, said in a statement on the Lloyd’s Web site.
“I’ll try my hardest to take care of it.”
Lloyd’s America President Wendy Baker said the company has more than 300 years of experience devising innovative insurance policies for unique risks and has insured the fingers of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards and Marlene Dietrich’s legs.
“That’s why, when our underwriters were approached to insure America’s smile for $10 million, they were happy to devise a policy that fitted the bill,” Baker said.
