McConnell says will fight Democratic spending bill

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said on Tuesday he will work to block a $1.1 trillion spending plan for the federal government proposed by Senate Democrats.

McConnell said instead of a 2,000-page spending bill passed in the final days of the current Congress, lawmakers should pass a temporary funding bill that will keep the government operating until possibly February.

That would give Republicans a greater chance to enact the immediate spending cuts they promised in the November congressional elections.
