Fox finds "Worthy" cause in political drama

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Fox has found “Worthy,” a hot drama spec script by “In Treatment” writer Davey Holmes, worthy of a pilot commitment.

The network is said to be close to hiring a casting director for the project.

The show follows an Arizona politician named Worthy whose struggle to do the right thing takes a wrong turn after he’s involved in a hit-and-run and gets blackmailed by a mob boss.

“I’ve long been fascinated with antiheroes,” Holmes said. “I feel some of the more interesting programs on the air feature that type of character, and I thought there was a wonderful place right now for a political story along those lines.”

“Worthy” seemed destined for cable, but an enthusiastic response from Fox’s programing chiefs Kevin Reilly and Peter Rice steered the script to Fox, said Holmes, who works on ABC’s midseason drama “Happy Town.”

As part of the “Treatment” writing staff, Holmes won a Writers Guild of America Award this year in the new series category.

His series credits also include ABC’s “Pushing Daisies” and FX’s “Damages,” the latter of which earned him a WGA nomination in the same category in 2008.
