Policy, not cuts, at issue in budget talks -Reid

WASHINGTON, April 7 (Reuters) - U.S. Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid said on Thursday that lawmakers are very close on a budget deal to avoid a government shutdown but remain at odds over restrictions that Republicans want on women’s health and environmental protection.

At a news conference, Reid said fiscal conservatives in the Tea Party movement are “cheering” for a government shutdown and trying to push through an “extreme agenda” in the budget talks.
