Congress needs more time for budget deal - aide

WASHINGTON, April 7 (Reuters) - The U.S. Congress will need to pass a stopgap budget bill to keep the government operating beyond Friday because staffers will not have time to turn any permanent agreement into a bill, a Republican aide said on Thursday.

Republicans have agreed with Democrats on the composition of a large portion of the cuts but still are disagreeing on the overall size of the package, the aide said.
