Columbia graduate assistants to get union vote in December

By Robert Iafolla Approximately 3,500 Columbia University students who have worked as teaching and research assistants will have the chance to vote Dec. 7 and 8 on whether to join an affiliate of the United Auto Workers, a graduate student workers group announced on Tuesday.

National Labor Relations Board Regional Director Karen Fernbach in Manhattan issued a notice of election on Monday allowing a vote to doctoral students who worked for at least one semester during the past year, as well as to masters and undergraduate students on the payroll in the fall 2016 semester.
