Fed's Lockhart-too much exit talk could be harmful

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., April 8 (Reuters) - The Federal Reserve should be careful not to send the wrong signal about interest rates by talking too extensively about its exit strategy, Atlanta Fed President Dennis Lockhart said on Friday.

“Yes, we should be thinking about the eventual reversal of course. But I am concerned that too much engagement at too great a detail at a point that I consider too early is not necessarily going to be a healthy set of circumstances for making policy,” he told reporters after a speech sponsored by the University of Tennessee and the Knoxville Economics Club.
