Trump says he is not bringing back family separation policy

WASHINGTON, April 9 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he was not returning to a policy of separating children from family members who had illegally crossed the border, one day after media reports that his administration was considering bringing it back.

Outgoing Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen oversaw the “zero tolerance” prosecution policy that led to the separations, which garnered legal challenges and a public outcry that eventually led to the policy’s reversal. (Reporting by Jeff Mason; Writing by Makini Brice; Editing by Susan Heavey)
