California bar exam pass rate tops 50% for the first time since 2013

Just over half of all test takers who took the California bar exam in July passed, marking the first time in six years a majority of applicants has done so, the State Bar said in a statement on Friday.

50.1% of 7,764 applicants passed the exam, up from its lowest passage rate in a decade of 40.7% in July 2018. The state bar described the increase as “a rebound to the 2017 pass rate” of 49.6%, in its statement.
