WASHINGTON, Feb 4 (Reuters) - A Mexican proposal to break the deadlock in long-running world trade talks fails to acheive the amount of market opening the United States wants to see from a deal, a U.S. trade official said on Friday.
“We appreciate the active engagement, but our analysis of Mexico’s approach is that it will not address the central issue of ambition,” the trade official told Reuters.
“The issue of ambition cannot be resolved through blanket prescriptions, or over-arching formulaic solutions. There is simply no substitute for WTO members sitting across the table and negotiating with one another. (Reporting by Doug Palmer; editing by Vicki Allen)
