FTC loses request again to stop Whole Foods deal

WASHINGTON, Aug 17 (Reuters) - U.S. antitrust authorities again lost a request on Friday for a federal court injunction that would stop organic grocer Whole Foods WFMI.O from merging with rival Wild Oats OATS.O.

On Thursday, U.S. District Court Judge Paul Friedman denied the Federal Trade Commission’s request to stop the merger. The agency appealed that denial, and asked the judge to issue a stay pending the result of the appeal. However, Friedman issued an order on Friday denying the government’s request for a stay.
