MADRID (Reuters) - A 19-year-old woman who contracted swine flu during her pregnancy became the first person on Tuesday to die from the virus in Spain, hours after her baby was rescued by a Caesarean section, radio reports said.

Doctors carried out the Caesarean after warning that a deterioration in the mother’s condition would prematurely induce her labour, private radio station Ser said.

A spokesman at Madrid’s Gergorio Maranon hospital declined to comment but had called for a news conference later in the morning.
