Zimbabwe economy to grow by 4.7 pct in '09 -Finmin

HARARE, Dec 2 (Reuters) - Zimbabwe’s economy is expected to grow by 4.7 percent this year, more than an earlier forecast of 3.7 percent, Finance Minister Tendai Biti said on Wednesday.

“The economy was originally set to grow by 3.7 percent but we are now expecting it to grow by 4.7 percent compared to (a) 10.9 percent decline in 2008. This is on the back of improved performance in agriculture, mining, manufacturing and tourism,” Biti said in presenting the country’s budget for the 2010 financial year.
