The construction on the Prince of Wales car park, the largest multi-story car park in control of Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics shipping line, has been completed. Added capacity of 3,400 spaces will enable WWL to accommodate the growing shipping volume demands.
San Diego, CA, United States – September 26, 2017 —
Ship Overseas, Inc., a San Diego-based international freight forwarder, is happy to announce that the construction has been completed on the Prince of Wales car park – the 6th multi-story car park in the Port of Southampton. The newly constructed car park is the largest car park controlled by Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL), Ship Overseas’ top shipping line for providing RoRo shipping services.
The new car park was primarily constructed to meet the demand for the increased volume in car shipping from the UK to the US, recorded in the last few years. The construction on the new car park was completed two months ahead of schedule. It involved the usage of innovative techniques with the aim of reducing the material needed as well as construction waste. The strategic use of LED lighting and enhanced motion sensors is also to increase the greener impact of the newly built car park on the environment.
Prince of Wales has a capacity of 3,400 spaces, ensuring that WWL Southampton will be able to accommodate current car shipping volume demands, as well as future growth in demand. Outfitting the park with universal charging stations is also planned so as to accommodate the rising number of electric cars.
Ship Overseas is contracted with Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics for providing international RoRo shipping service. In the period between January and September 2017, 26.1% of Ship Overseas overall shipping was done through WWL, making it their top shipping line.
The increased capacity of WWL Southampton coincides with Ship Overseas’ strategy to double the shipping volume by the end of 2017, with a special focus on car shipping from the US to the UK and vice versa. The newly built Prince of Wales will play a significant role in the volume growth Ship Overseas has planned.
‘’Not only does the Prince of Wales car park offer additional parking capacity, it’s also making a greener impact on the environment. WWL has proved to be a forward-thinking company and we are glad to have them as our partner. With the increase in WWL Southampton capacity, we’ll have peace of mind knowing that we too can meet the growing demand of car shipping to and from the UK,’’ says Jack Friedman, President of Ship Overseas Inc.
