Rising Trends in Food Delivery Services

Thu Aug 16, 2018 - 03:43am UTC

Over the years, the food industry has evolved into a transformative space, marrying the industry with food delivery services to provide greater convenience and quality of service to customers. With rising consumerism, researchers see exceptional growth for the industry in the future. Rising competition in the sector has also enabled the birth of newer features and services, most of which are driving demand and sales. Here are some of the trends that are increasingly becoming in the food delivery industry:

1. Technology to play a crucial role:

Modern consumers are becoming increasingly reliant on technology to meet their daily requirements. With stiff competition in the food industry, companies are now banking on technology to aid innovative plans and offer better services to the customer. The services have also extended to other groceries that include nuts, spices and food products like turmeric, thyme, imported herbs, and a plethora of other items. Delivery of the products are also transitioning to include autonomous vehicles. Not so long ago, in an effort to provide better delivery services, Domino’s rolled out its robotic delivery vehicle, DRU, that will deliver pizzas and interact with customers.

2. Online orders set to increase multifold:

Studies show that over half of the consumers would prefer to have their orders delivered, and this has helped boost the frequency of the orders because of its convenience. One of the biggest factor that made this possible is the accessibility to mobile apps for consumers.

3. Millennials to drive demand:

A significant portion of the online food delivery industry thrives on demand from millennials. According to the U.S. National Restaurant Association, millennials will form nearly 70 percent of consumers for food delivery companies by 2020.

4. AI-driven solutions and delivery droids to enable better services:

Apart from autonomous vehicles, many companies are now considering the usage of artificial intelligence and delivery droids. If successful testing helps in effecting these strategies, it will simplify the ordering process for the customer and improve delivery services.

5. Food delivery companies prioritize data security:

With an increasing number of clients relying on the internet to make transactions – right from ordering a product to making the payment, users’ data that is collected is vulnerable to security breaches or data misuse. Companies are now sensitive to prioritizing data privacy and security, and some ensure that they take the customer’s consent before using their data for business purposes. Better yet? Food delivery companies bank on data to drive micro-targeted campaigns and promotions for the customer, thereby prioritizing user experience (UX). These actions are projected to improve and better their business model.

With numerous companies embracing the new growth spurt in the food delivery industry, there is much more to come in the future through automated delivery services and eco-friendly options on offer.
