HOUSTON, Sept 14 (Reuters) - Chevron Corp.(CVX.N) has ongoing discussions at the board of directors to set mid-century targets for zeroing out carbon emissions, chief executive officer Mike Wirth said on Tuesday.

The company should elaborate further on new potential carbon reduction targets later this year as it discloses its latest climate report, Wirth said.

Unlike European peers BP Plc and Royal Dutch Shell Plc, U.S. producers like Chevron and Exxon Mobil Corp. have been unwilling to commit to 2050 net-zero targets.
