National Grid will buy England's largest electricity distribution business WPD from U.S.-based PPL for 7.8 billion pounds ($10.9 billion) as it positions itself for a climate-driven transition from gas to electric power.
National Grid said on Thursday it had agreed to buy the holding company of the UK's largest electricity distribution business, Western Power Distribution, from U.S. company PPL Corp for 7.8 billion pounds ($10.92 billion).
The sale of British power utility Western Power Distribution (WPD) faces delays to at least the first quarter of 2021, partly due to uncertainty over whether Britain will leave the European Union without a trade deal, sources close to the matter said.
