June 7 (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp <7203.T> executive::WE CONSIDER OURSELVES TO BE A BATTERY MANUFACTURER.THERE MAY BE A GAP BETWEEN OUR BATTERY NEEDS AND WHAT WE CAN MANUFACTURE OURSELVES.WE'RE NOT BEHIND IN EV; BEEN CONSIDERING THIS PLAN FOR LONG TIME.WE HAVE NOT CHANGED OUR POLICY, PLANS FOR BATTERY EVS.HYBRID VEHICLE VOLUMES HAVE INCREASED MORE THAN WE EXPECTED.WANT TO LAUNCH SOLID STATE BATTERIES AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.IF POSSIBLE BY TOKYO OLYMPICS WANT TO SHOW SOLID STATE BATTERY.EVS HAVE BECOME MORE VIABLE AS A BUSINESS, BUT STILL LAG COMBUSTION ENGINE CARS.BATTERY EV TECH HAS COME A LONG WAY SINCE 2010 BUT IT WILL STILL BE A CHALLENGE TO CREATE A PROFITABLE BUSINESS FOR THEM VERSUS GASOLINE ENGINE CAR BUSINESS.EVEN WITH NEW PARTNERS, NOT SURE IF EV BUSINESS WILL ULTIMATELY BE VIABLE.MORE STRINGENT EMISSIONS REGULATIONS IN EUROPE, JAPAN, CHINA IN COMING YEARS ARE ONE FACTOR FOR ACCELERATED EV DEVELOPMENT.ENVISION THAT BATTERY EVS WILL BE USED IN TOYOTA'S NEW MOBILITY SERVICES, DUE TO THEIR SIMPLE STRUCTURE.THINK HYBRID VEHICLE SALES VOLUMES WILL STILL BE HIGHER THAN BATTERY EV VOLUMES BY 2025, SEES BATTERY EV SALES VOLUMES AT LESS THAN 1 MILLION BY 2025.
