Name Description

Heath Freeman

Mr. Heath B. Freeman serves as a Chairman of the Board of the Company. Mr. Freeman is the President and a Founding Member, of Alden Global Capital LLC, a New York-based investment firm focused on deep value, catalyst driven investing. He has been with the firm since its founding in 2007, and has been its President since 2014. Mr. Freeman currently serves as Vice Chairman of MediaNews Group, Inc. (‘MNG”), the second largest newspaper business in the United States by circulation, owning newspapers such as The Denver Post, San Jose Mercury News and Orange County Register. At MNG he leads the strategic review committee and serves on the compensation committee. Mr. Freeman is a co-founder and serves on the board of SLT Group, Inc. a private boutique fitness business founded in 2011. In addition, Mr. Freeman also co-founded City of Saints Coffee Roasters in 2013, a third wave coffee roaster, wholesaler and retailer. Prior to Alden, Mr. Freeman worked as an Investment Analyst at Smith Management, a private investment firm. Mr. Freeman began his career as an analyst at Peter J. Solomon Company, a boutique investment bank with a focus on Retail and Consumer, where he worked on mergers and acquisitions, restructurings and refinancing assignments. Currently, Mr. Freeman serves as Chairman of the Advisory Board for Jewish Life at Duke University's Freeman Center. He is a graduate of Duke University.

Joseph Anto

Mr. Joseph M. Anto is Interim Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Executive Vice President, Secretary of the Company. Mr. Anto has served as the Company's Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Secretary since February 2018. Mr. Anto also served as a consultant to the Company from July 2017 to February 2018. From 2015 to February 2018, Mr. Anto served as Senior Vice President of Strategy and M&A at MediaNews Group, Inc. (d/b/a Digital First Media), one of the largest newspaper companies in the U.S. by circulation. From 2014-2015, he was Vice President of Business Development for MediaNews Group and also CEO at Jobs in the US.com, a subsidiary of MediaNews with regionally focused job board sites in New England. From 2013-2014 he was Managing Director at Digital First Ventures, the strategic investing division of MediaNews Group. In 2009 he co-founded RumbaTime, LLC, a fashion brand focused on timepieces and accessories and served as the Company's CEO until 2012. From 2006-2009 Mr. Anto was a Senior Analyst and Director of Investments at Harbinger Capital Partners, a multi-strategy investment firm, where he managed one of the largest merchant power investment portfolios in the sector, accounting for approximately 30% of the fund's assets and completed M&A and debt financing transactions totaling over $4 billion in value. Prior to his time at Harbinger, Mr. Anto was an associate at ABS Capital Partners, a later-stage venture capital firm, and an analyst at First Union Securities in their technology investment banking group. He has previously served on the boards of private merchant power companies Kelson Energy Inc. and Kelson Canada, CIPS Marketing Group Inc. and was also previously on the board at RumbaTime. He has a BBA from Emory University and an MBA from Columbia University.

Mary Lou Gardner

Ms. Mary Lou Gardner serves as Executive Vice President, Chief Merchandising and Marketing Officer of the Company. Mary Lou brings a wealth of leadership experience to the Merchandising, Marketing, Pricing and Planning area. Gardner joined Fred's at the beginning of 2016 as Senior Vice President/Strategy/Project Management. In this short time span, she has become an instrumental part of the Fred's team." Mary Lou was most recently an executive with CVS Health Corporation, serving in many capacities during her tenure, including Divisional Merchandising Manager for Beauty/Personal Care, Senior Director of Inventory Management, Senior Director of Merchandising General Merchandise/Consumables, Senior Director for Promotional Optimization, and Senior Director for Store Brand Innovation. She excels in the ability to lead and rally a team around a common purpose, which explains her many diverse roles at CVS, where she was called on several times to lead key strategic initiatives. Prior to her time at CVS, Gardner's unique experience spanned international business, from sourcing to strategy and organizational development across several industries including healthcare, banking and higher education.

John Foley

Mr. John Foley serves as a Executive Vice President - Store Operations of the Company., effective October 7, 2015. Foley brings to Fred's more than 30 years of experience in retail pharmacy chain experience. For the past nine years, he was Corporate Operations Vice President at Walgreen's, responsible for the Eastern Division, which in 2014 accounted for approximately $20 billion in revenue from more than 2,500 retail pharmacies, health care clinics, and specialty pharmacy units. Prior to this role with Walgreen's, Foley served as a District Manager for six years and was a Store Manager for 11 years.

Kimberley Felice-Dooley

Ms. Kimberley Felice-Dooley serves as a Senior Vice President - Merchandising - Consumables of the Company. Ms. Felice-Dooley has held various leadership positions with CVS from 2006 until 2016, including Director of Category Management Skincare & Fragrance and Director of Category Management Candy. Prior to joining CVS in 2006, Ms. Felice-Dooley served in varying capacities at Federated Department Stores, beginning in 1997. Ms. Felice-Dooley studied Textiles, Merchandising and Design at the University of Rhode Island and Interior Design at Mount Ida College.

Steve Wuebker

Mr. Steve Wuebker serves as a Senior Vice President - Supply Chain of the Company. Mr. Wuebker most recently served as President and CEO of Prospect Brands. Prior, Mr. Wuebker held positions with Ralph Lauren Corporation from 2006 to 2015, including Senior Vice President, Global Supply Chain. Mr. Wuebker also has experience with Gap, Inc., Toys 'R Us, and PepsiCo. Mr. Wuebker holds a Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati and Masters degrees from George Washington University and Cranfield University.

Michael Holligan

Mr. Michael G. Holligan serves as a Regional Vice President - Store Operations of the Company. He was Executive Vice President - Store Operations of the company., in March 2015. He was serving as Interim Executive Vice President - Store Operations beginning in September 2014. Mr. Holligan joined the Company in June of 2002 as a district manager and was promoted to Regional Vice President of Store Operations in September of 2004. Prior to joining Fred's, Mr. Holligan spent 18 years at Wal-Mart in various store operations leadership roles.

Dana Needleman

Ms. Dana Goldsmith Needleman is Director of the company. She has been serving as a principal of The Cogent Group, a private real estate investment firm, since 2009. She has been instrumental in the acquisition, development and disposition of more than $5.0 billion of corporate real estate throughout the United States with a heavy concentration of retail assets. Prior to The Cogent Group, Ms. Goldsmith Needleman was a Managing Director at Cardinal Capital Partners, one of the largest private sale-leaseback investors in the United States. Throughout her career, Ms. Goldsmith Needleman has completed sizeable acquisitions with Academy Sports & Outdoors, Albertson’s, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, Dick’s Sporting Goods, PetSmart, Rite Aid, Shaw’s, and various other national retailers, enabling these companies to maximize the value of their real estate holdings through build-to-suits and sale-leaseback transactions. Ms. Goldsmith Needleman earned her B.A. from Duke University, J.D. from Boston University School of Law and was admitted to the New York and Massachusetts bars.

Thomas Zacharias

Mr. Thomas E. Zacharias is Director of the company. He currently serves as President of Zacharias & Co. LLC, a real estate investment and advisory firm he founded in April 2017, after retiring as Chief Operating Officer from W. P. Carey Inc., a $10 billion publicly traded REIT. He has 36 years of corporate management experience and 23 years of board level experience involving a total of eight companies. The focus of his experience includes general management, financial analysis, strategic planning, value creation, operations, acquisitions, restructurings and retail real estate. He received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University magna cum laude and a MBA from Yale School of Management.

Timothy Barton

Mr. Timothy A. Barton serves as an Independent Director of the Company. Mr. Barton founded Freightquote in 1998, and served as Chairman and CEO until the company’s sale to C.H. Robinson Worldwide in 2015. Prior to founding Freightquote, Mr. Barton was the Co-Founder and President of UWI Association Programs, which grew into Network Long Distance before being acquired by IXC Communications/Broadwing in 1998. Mr. Barton earned his B.A. in Business from the University of Kanas and an M.A. in Finance from Louisiana State University.

Steven Rossi

Mr. Steven B. Rossi serves as an Independent Director of the Company. Mr. Rossi is the Chief Executive Officer of Digital First Media. He previously served as Digital First Media’s Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining Digital First Media, Mr. Rossi held several successive management positions over 19 years with Knight Ridder Inc., including Chief Financial Officer, Senior Vice President of Operations and President of the Newspaper Division. Mr. Rossi holds an MBA degree from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in Economics from Ursinus College.
