Meritor, Inc., incorporated on March 31, 2000, is a supplier of a range of integrated systems, modules and components to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and the aftermarket for the commercial vehicle, transportation and industrial sectors. The Company's segments include Commercial Truck & Industrial and Aftermarket & Trailer. The Commercial Truck & Industrial segment supplies drivetrain systems and components, including axles, drivelines and braking and suspension systems, for medium- and heavy-duty trucks, off-highway, military, construction, bus and coach, fire and emergency and other applications in North America, South America, Europe and Asia Pacific. The Commercial Truck & Industrial segment also includes the Company's aftermarket businesses in Asia Pacific and South America. The Aftermarket & Trailer segment supplies axles, brakes, drivelines, suspension parts and other replacement and remanufactured parts to commercial vehicle aftermarket customers in North America and Europe. The Aftermarket & Trailer segment also supplies various undercarriage products and systems for trailer applications in North America. The Company serves commercial truck, trailer, military, bus and coach, construction, and other industrial OEMs and certain aftermarkets. Its principal products are axles, undercarriages, drivelines, brakes and braking systems. It caters to a range of customers across the world, including medium- and heavy-duty truck OEMs, specialty vehicle manufacturers, certain aftermarkets and trailer producers.
Axles, Undercarriage & Drivelines
The Company's truck axle product line includes a range of front steer axles and rear drive axles. Its front steer and rear drive axles can be equipped with its cam, wedge or air disc brakes, automatic slack adjusters, complete wheel-end equipment, such as hubs, rotors and drums, and (through its MeritorWABCO joint venture) anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and vehicle stability control systems. It supplies heavy-duty axles in certain global regions for use in numerous off-highway vehicle applications, including construction, material handling, and mining. It also supplies axles for use in military tactical wheeled vehicles, principally in North America. In addition, it has other off-highway vehicle products that are in development for certain other regions. It also supplies axles for use in buses, coaches and recreational vehicles, fire trucks and other specialty vehicles in North America, Asia Pacific and Europe. It manufactures heavy-duty trailer axles in North America. As of October 2, 2016, its trailer axles were available in more than 40 models in capacities from 20,000 to 30,000 pounds for virtually all heavy trailer applications and were available with its range of suspension modules, brake products, including drum brakes, disc brakes, anti-lock and trailer stability control systems, and ABS (through its MeritorWABCO joint venture).
The Company supplies universal joints and driveline components, including its Permalube universal joint and RPL Permalube driveline, which are permanently lubricated designs used often in the high mileage on-highway market. It supplies drivelines in a variety of global regions, for use in numerous on-highway vehicle applications, including construction, material handling and mining. It supplies transfer cases and drivelines for use in military tactical wheeled vehicles, principally in North America. It also supplies transfer cases for use in specialty vehicles in North America. Anti-lock brakes and stability control systems are also used in military vehicles and specialty vehicles. In addition, it supplies trailer air suspension systems and products. It also supplies advanced suspension modules for use in light-, medium- and heavy-duty military tactical wheeled vehicles, principally in North America.
Brakes and Braking Systems
Through manufacturing facilities located in North America, Asia Pacific and Europe, the Company manufactures a range of foundation air brakes, as well as automatic slack adjusters for brake systems. Its foundation air brake products include cam drum brakes, which offer lining life and tractor/trailer interchangeability; wedge drum brakes, which are lightweight and provide automatic internal wear adjustment; air disc brakes, which provide managed stopping distance and fade resistance for demanding applications, and wheel-end components, such as hubs, drums and rotors. Its brakes and brake system components also are used in military tactical wheeled vehicles, principally in North America. It also supplies brakes for use in buses, coaches and recreational vehicles, fire trucks and other specialty vehicles in North America and Europe. It also supplies brakes for commercial vehicles, buses and coaches in Asia Pacific.
The Company sells other complementary products, including third party and private label items, through its aftermarket distribution channels. These products are generally sold under master distribution or similar agreements with outside vendors and include brake shoes and friction materials; automatic slack adjusters; yokes and shafts; wheel-end hubs and drums; ABS and stability control systems; shock absorbers and air springs, and air brakes, air systems, air dryers and compressors. The Company’s other complementary products include transfer cases, specialty gear boxes, auxiliary transmissions and power take off units (PTOs) for medium, heavy and extra heavy vehicles for on- and off-highway, construction, defense, rail and other industrial applications.
