Sunoco LP, incorporated on June 11, 2012, is engaged in the retail sale of motor fuels and merchandise through its Company-operated convenience stores and retail fuel sites, as well as the wholesale distribution of motor fuels to convenience stores, independent dealers, commercial customers and distributors. The Company operates through two segments: wholesale and retail. The Wholesale segment sells motor fuel to its retail segment and external customers. The Retail segment operates convenience stores selling a range of merchandise, food items, services and motor fuel. As of August 1, 2018, the Company operated approximately 9,200 convenience stores, independent dealers, commercial customers and distributors located in more than 30 states.
The Company's Wholesale Subsidiaries include Susser Petroleum Operating Company LLC, which distributes motor fuel, propane and lubricating oils to Stripes' retail locations, consignment locations, and third party customers in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Kansas; Sunoco LLC, which primarily distributes motor fuel throughout the East Coast, Midwest, and Southeast regions of the United States, it also processes transmix and distributes refined product through its terminals in Alabama and the Greater Dallas, Texas metroplex; Southside Oil, LLC, which distributes motor fuel primarily in Virginia, Maryland, Tennessee, and Georgia, and Aloha Petroleum LLC, which distributes motor fuel and operates terminal facilities on the Hawaiian Islands. The Company's Retail subsidiaries include Susser Petroleum Property Company LLC, which primarily owns and leases convenience store properties; Susser Holdings Corporation (Susser), which sells motor fuel and merchandise in Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma through Stripes-branded convenience stores; Sunoco Retail, which owns and operates convenience stores that sell motor fuel and merchandise primarily in Pennsylvania, New York, and Florida; MACS Retail LLC (MACS Retail), which owns and operates convenience stores in Virginia, Maryland, and Tennessee, and Aloha Petroleum, Ltd. (Aloha), which owns and operates convenience stores on the Hawaiian Islands.
The Company's wholesale segment purchases motor fuel primarily from independent refiners and oil companies and supplies it to its retail segment to independently-operated dealer stations under long-term supply agreements, and to distributors and other consumers of motor fuel. The wholesale segment also includes motor fuel sales to consignment locations. The Company distributes motor fuels throughout the East Coast and Southeast regions of the United States from Maine to Florida and from Florida to New Mexico, as well as Hawaii. The Company distributes fuel under long-term contracts to convenience stores and retail fuel outlets operated by third parties. As of December 31, 2016, the Company distributed fuel under consignment arrangements at approximately 165 locations. The Company distributed branded motor fuel under the Aloha, Chevron, Citgo, Conoco, Exxon, Mahalo, Mobil, Phillips66, Shamrock, Shell, Texaco, Sunoco and Valero brands. The Company also distributes unbranded fuel to various other customers, including convenience stores, unattended fueling facilities and certain other commercial customers. The Company also delivers motor fuel, propane and lubricants to commercial customers involved in petroleum exploration and production.
As of December 31, 2016, the Company's retail segment operated branded retail convenience stores across more than 20 states throughout the East Coast and Southeast regions of the United States with a presence in Texas, Pennsylvania, New York, Florida, and Hawaii. These stores offer motor fuel, merchandise, food service, and a range of other services, including car washes, lottery, automated teller machine (ATM), money orders, prepaid phone cards and wireless services, and movie rentals. The Company's retail convenience stores operate under various brands, including Stripes, APlus and Aloha Island Mart. Its stores offer a range of food, beverages, snacks, grocery and non-food merchandise, motor fuel and other services.
As of December 31, 2016, the Company operated approximately 740 Stripes convenience stores in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Louisiana. Each store offers a merchandise mix based on local customer demand and preferences. As of December 31, 2016, it operated approximately 160 MACS and Aloha convenience stores and fuel outlets in Virginia, Maryland, Tennessee, Georgia, and Hawaii offering merchandise, food service, motor fuel and other services. As of December 31, 2016, MACS operated approximately 110 Company-operated retail convenience stores and Aloha operated approximately 50 Aloha, Shell, and Mahalo branded fuel stations.
