Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, S.A. (BBVA), incorporated on January 28, 2000, is a diversified financial company engaged in retail banking, wholesale banking, asset management and private banking. The Company also operates in other sectors, such as insurance, real estate and operational leasing. The Company operates through seven segments: Banking Activity in Spain, Real Estate Activity in Spain, the United States Turkey, Mexico, South America and Rest of Eurasia. In addition to these, the Company has a Corporate Center. The Company has presence in over 30 countries. It operates as a financial institution in Mexico and has franchises in South America and the Sunbelt region of the United States.
Banking Activity in Spain
The Banking Activity in Spain segment includes Banking Activity in Spain segment include Retail Network in Spain, Corporate and Business Banking (CBB), Corporate and Investment Banking (C&IB), and BBVA Seguros and Asset Management units in Spain. It also includes the portfolios, finance and structural interest-rate positions of the euro balance sheet.
Real Estate Activity in Spain
The Real Estate Activity in Spain segment covers specialist management of real-estate assets in the country (excluding buildings for own use). Its assets include foreclosed real-estate assets from residential mortgages and developers, as well as lending to developers.
The United States segment includes the Company's business activity in the country through the BBVA Compass Bancshares Inc. and the BBVA New York branch. BBVA Compass is a bank with over 670 branches throughout the United States.
The Turkey segment represents its stake in the Turkish bank, Turkiye Garanti Bankasi A.S. (Garanti). Garanti offers finance, banking and insurance services.
The Mexico segment consists of its subsidiary, Grupo Financiero Bancomer. Grupo Financiero Bancomer is engaged in banking and insurance businesses in Mexico.
The South America segment manages the Company's banking and insurance businesses in the South America region. The South America segment has operations in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela. It has a representative office in Sao Paulo (Brazil).
Rest of Eurasia
The Rest of Eurasia segment includes business activity in the rest of Europe and Asia. The segment provides retail and wholesale businesses in the area. Its activity in Europe is carried out through banks and financial institutions in Ireland, Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania and Portugal, branches in Germany, Belgium, France, Italy and the United Kingdom, and a representative office in Moscow. Its activity in Asia-Pacific is carried out through branches (in Taipei, Seoul, Tokyo, Hong Kong Singapore and Shanghai) and representative offices (in Beijing, Mumbai, Abu Dhabi, Sydney and Jakarta).
