Bank of Montreal (the Bank), incorporated on March 15, 1995, is a financial services provider. The Bank provides a range of personal and commercial banking, wealth management, and investment banking products and services. The Bank conducts its business through three operating groups: Personal and Commercial Banking (P&C), Wealth Management and BMO Capital Markets. BMO Financial Corp. (BFC) is owned by the Bank. BFC operates through its subsidiary BMO Harris Bank N.A. (BHB), which provides banking, financing, investing and cash management services in select markets in the United States Midwest. The Bank provides a range of investment dealer services through entities, including BMO Nesbitt Burns Inc., an integrated Canadian investment dealer and BMO Capital Markets Corp., which is a securities dealer in the United States.
The Bank serves customers through its wealth management businesses: BMO Asset Management Corp., BMO Nesbitt Burns Inc., BMO Private Banking, BMO Insurance and BMO InvestorLine. The Bank has over 1,500 bank branches in Canada and the United States, and operates internationally in various financial markets and trading areas.
Personal and Commercial Banking
The P&C business includes two retail and business banking operating segments, such as Canadian Personal and Commercial Banking (Canadian P&C), and the United States Personal and Commercial Banking (U.S. P&C). Canadian P&C provides a range of financial products and services to customers. The Bank operates over 900 branches and approximately 3,300 automated banking machines across the country. Personal Banking provides customers with a range of products and services, including checking and savings accounts, credit cards, mortgages, creditor insurance, and everyday financial and investment advice. Commercial Banking provides small business and commercial banking customers with a range of commercial products and services, including business deposit accounts, commercial credit cards, business loans and commercial mortgages, cash management solutions, foreign exchange and specialized banking programs.
The Bank's retail and small and mid-sized business banking customers are served through over 600 branches, contact centers, online and mobile banking platforms, and approximately 1,300 automated banking machines across over five states. Personal Banking offers a range of products and services to individuals, as well as small and mid-sized business customers, including deposits, mortgages, consumer credit, business lending, credit cards and other banking services. Commercial Banking provides business customers with a range of banking products and services, including lending, deposits, treasury management and risk management.
The Bank's Wealth Management business serves a range of client segments, from mainstream to ultra-high net worth and institutional, with an offering of wealth management products and services, including insurance. BMO Wealth Management is a global business with a presence in markets across Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia. BMO Nesbitt Burns Inc., its service investing business in Canada, offers client-focused investment and wealth advisory services that leverage financial planning capabilities, as well as digital portfolio management platform, BMO SmartFolio. BMO InvestorLine is an online investing service that offers clients two ways to invest: self-directed service, which provides tools to help investors make independent investment decisions and adviceDirect, which provides investors with online advice and investment recommendations for their portfolios.
The Bank's Private Banking businesses operate in Canada, the United States, Hong Kong and Singapore, offering a range of financial services and solutions to high net worth and ultra-high net worth clients, and under BMO Harris Financial Advisors to clients in the United States. BMO Asset Management is an asset management organization that provides investment management, trust and custody services to institutional, retail and high net worth investors around the world. BMO Insurance operates in Canada and internationally. In Canada, it manufactures life insurance, accident and sickness insurance, and annuity products that are marketed both to brokers and directly to individuals. Its creditor insurance division markets group creditor insurance, and internationally, it provides reinsurance solutions.
BMO Capital Markets
BMO Capital Markets is a financial services provider offering a range of products and services to corporate, institutional and government clients. Investment and Corporate Banking offers clients debt and equity capital-raising services, as well as loan origination and syndication, balance sheet management solutions and treasury management services. It provides advice on mergers and acquisitions, restructurings and recapitalizations, as well as valuation and fairness opinions. It also offers trade finance and risk mitigation services to support the international business activities of its clients, and it provides a range of banking and other operating services to North American and international financial institutions.
Trading Products offers research and access to global markets for institutional, corporate and retail clients through an integrated suite of sales and trading solutions that include debt, foreign exchange, interest rate, credit, equity, securitization and commodities. It also offers product development and origination services, as well as risk management (derivatives) advice and services to hedge against fluctuations in a range of inputs, including interest rates and commodities prices. In addition, it provides funding and liquidity management to its clients. BMO Capital Markets operates in approximately 30 locations around the world.
