Cameco Corporation (Cameco), incorporated on January 1, 1997, is a uranium producer. The Company is primarily engaged in the exploration for and the development, mining, refining, conversion, fabrication and trading of uranium for sale as fuel for generating electricity in nuclear power reactors in Canada and other countries. The Company operates through three segments: uranium, fuel services and NUKEM. Cameco conducts a portion of its exploration, development, mining and milling activities through joint operations located around the world. Cameco's Canadian uranium joint operation interests are McArthur River, Key Lake and Cigar Lake. The Company's subsidiaries include Cameco Fuel Manufacturing Inc. (CFM), Cameco Inc., Power Resources, Inc., Crow Butte Resources, Inc., NUKEM Investments GmbH, Cameco Australia Pty. Ltd. and Cameco Europe Ltd.
The uranium segment involves the exploration for, mining, milling, purchase and sale of uranium concentrate. The Company's uranium operating properties include Mcarthur River mine/Key lake mill, Cigar Lake and Inkai. Its uranium projects under evaluation include Millennium, Yeelirrie and Kintyre. McArthur River is a uranium mine and Key Lake is a uranium mill. The McArthur River mine/Key Lake mill is located at Saskatchewan, Canada. McArthur River has six zones with delineated mineral reserves and delineated mineral resources (zones 1 to 4, zones A and B) and an additional area with delineated mineral resources (McArthur north). The Company is engaged in mining zone 2 and zone 4. The Cigar Lake is a uranium mine and is located in Saskatchewan, Canada. Inkai is a uranium deposit located in Kazakhstan. Inkai consists of two production areas (blocks 1 and 2) and an exploration area (block 3). It also holds interest in properties, including Rabbit Lake, Smith ranch-highland and Crow butte. The Millennium property is located in Saskatchewan, Canada. The Yeelirrie property is located in Western Australia. The Kintyre property is located in Western Australia.
The fuel services segment involves the refining, conversion and fabrication of uranium concentrate, and the purchase and sale of conversion services. The Fuel services segment offers a range of products and services to customers. The Blind River is the Company's commercial uranium refinery, which is engaged in refining uranium concentrates from mines around the world into uranium trioxide (UO3). Port Hope Conversion Services is the Company's uranium conversion facility in Canada and a supplier of uranium dioxide (UO2) for Canadian-made CANada Deuterium Uranium (CANDU) reactors. Port Hope is a uranium conversion facility located in Ontario, Canada. CFM produces fuel bundles and reactor components for CANDU reactors.
The NUKEM segment acts as a market intermediary between uranium producers and nuclear-electric utilities. NUKEM Investments GmbH is engaged in trading of uranium and uranium-related products. Its customers are commercial nuclear power plants using uranium fuel. It also trades with converters, enrichers, other traders and investors.
