Companhia Paranaense de Energia - Copel, incorporated on October 26, 1954, is engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electricity primarily in the Brazilian State of Parana. The Company also provides telecommunications and other services. The Company's segments include Power generation and transmission (GET), Power distribution and sales (DIS), Telecommunications (TEL), GAS and Holding Company (HOL). The Company's GET segment includes the generation of electric energy from hydraulic, wind and thermal projects; the transport and transformation of the power generated by the Company, and the construction, operation and maintenance of all power transmission substations and lines. The Company's DIS segment includes the distribution and sale of electric energy, the operation and maintenance of the distribution infrastructure, and related services. The Company's TEL segment includes telecommunications and general communications services. The Company's GAS segment includes the public service of piped natural gas distribution. The Company's HOL segment includes participation in other companies.

The Company generates electricity from over 20 hydroelectric plants, approximately 10 wind plants and a thermoelectric plant for a total installed capacity of over 5,032.2 megawatts. It holds concessions to distribute electricity in over 390 municipalities in the State of Parana and in the municipality of Porto Uniao in the State of Santa Catarina. It owns and operates over 2,340 kilometers of transmission lines and approximately 193,527.1 kilometers of distribution lines. Its generation business sells energy to its distribution business through auctions in the regulated market. The Company's hydroelectric power plant projects include Colider and Baixo Iguacu. Its wind farm projects include Copel Brisa Potiguar, Sao Bento Energia and Sao Miguel do Gostoso. It also has ownership interests in other generation projects, which include Dona Francisca hydroelectric power plant, Santa Clara and Fundao hydroelectric power plant, and Araucaria thermoelectric power plant.
