Energy Transfer Partners, L.P., formerly Sunoco Logistics Partners L.P., incorporated on October 15, 2001, owns and operates a logistics business. The Company is engaged in the transport, terminaling and storage of crude oil, refined products and natural gas liquids (NGLs). The Company's segments include Crude Oil, Natural Gas Liquids and Refined Products. In addition to logistics services, it also owns acquisition and marketing assets, which are used to facilitate the purchase and sale of crude oil, refined products and NGLs.
The Crude Oil segment provides transportation, terminaling and acquisition and marketing services to crude oil markets throughout the southwest, midwest and northeastern United States. As of December 31, 2016, included within the segment was approximately 6,100 miles of crude oil trunk and gathering pipelines in the southwest and midwest United States and equity ownership interests in approximately two crude oil pipelines. As of December 31, 2016, the Company's crude oil terminaling services operated with an aggregate storage capacity of approximately 33 million barrels, including approximately 26 million barrels at its Gulf Coast terminal in Nederland, Texas and approximately two million barrels at its Fort Mifflin terminal complex in Pennsylvania. Its Crude Oil segment consists of a set of pipeline, terminaling, and acquisition and marketing assets that service the movement of crude oil from producers to end user markets.
The Nederland terminal, located on the Sabine-Neches waterway between Beaumont and Port Arthur, Texas, is a marine terminal providing storage and distribution services for refiners and other large transporters of crude oil and NGLs. The Fort Mifflin terminal complex is located on the Delaware River in Philadelphia and includes the Fort Mifflin terminal, the Hog Island wharf, the Darby Creek tank farm and connecting pipelines. The Eagle Point terminal is located in Westville, New Jersey and consists of docks, truck loading facilities and a tank farm.
Natural Gas Liquids
The Natural Gas Liquids segment transports, stores, and executes acquisition and marketing activities utilizing a network of pipelines, storage and blending facilities, and strategic off-take locations that provide access to multiple NGLs markets. As of December 31, 2016, the segment contained approximately 900 miles of NGLs pipelines, related to its Mariner systems located in the northeast and southwest United States. As of December 31, 2016, terminaling services were facilitated by approximately five million barrels of NGLs storage capacity, including one million barrels of storage at its Nederland, Texas terminal facility and three million barrels at its Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania terminal facility. The segment also carries out its NGLs blending activities, including utilizing its butane blending technology.
As of December 31, 2016, the Refined Products segment provided transportation and terminaling services, using approximately 1,800 miles of refined products pipelines and approximately 40 active refined products marketing terminals. As of December 31, 2016, the Company's marketing terminals were located in the northeast, midwest and southeast United States, with approximately eight million barrels of refined products storage capacity. As of December 31, 2016, the Refined Products segment included its Eagle Point facility in New Jersey, which had approximately six million barrels of refined products storage capacity. As of December 31, 2016, the segment also included its equity ownership interests in four refined products pipeline companies. The segment also performs terminaling activities at its Marcus Hook Industrial Complex. The Refined Products segment utilizes its integrated pipeline and terminaling assets, as well as acquisition and marketing activities, to service refined products markets in several regions of the United States.
