Profile: Foresight Energy LP (FELP.N)
Foresight Energy LP (FELP), incorporated on January 26, 2012, is engaged in the mining and marketing of coal from reserves and operations located in the Illinois Basin. As of December 31, 2016, the Company controlled 2.1 billion tons of coal in the state of Illinois. Its reserves consist principally of three contiguous blocks of uniform, thick, high heat content (high Btu) thermal coal, which are used for longwall operations. The Company operates four underground mining complexes in the Illinois Basin, including Williamson, Sugar Camp, Hillsboro and Macoupin. Its mining complexes operate in the Illinois Basin with approximately two located in Southern Illinois and over two located in Central Illinois. Williamson, Sugar Camp and Hillsboro are longwall operations, and Macoupin is a continuous miner operation. The Company markets and sells its coal to electric utility and industrial companies in the eastern half of the United States as well as internationally (primarily into Europe). The Company sells a majority of its coal to customers at delivery points other than its mines, including, but not limited to, its river terminals on the Ohio River and ports near New Orleans.
Williamson Mining Complex
The Company's Williamson mine is owned by its subsidiary, Williamson Energy, LLC (Williamson), and is located in southern Illinois near the town of Marion. The mine operates in the Herrin No. 6 Seam, using one longwall system and two continuous miner units to develop the mains and gate roads for its longwall panels. Williamson has access to various barge facilities on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers and two vessel loading facilities near New Orleans.
Sugar Camp Mining Complex
The Company's Sugar Camp mine is owned by its subsidiary, Sugar Camp Energy, LLC (Sugar Camp), and is located in southern Illinois approximately 12 miles north of Williamson. Sugar Camp's infrastructure, including its bottom development, slope belt, material handling system and rail loadout, supports both longwalls. Sugar Camp operates in the Herrin No. 6 Seam and uses a similar mine design and similar equipment as Williamson.
Hillsboro Mining Complex
The Company's Hillsboro mine is owned by its subsidiary Hillsboro Energy LLC (Hillsboro) and is located in central Illinois near the town of Hillsboro. The mine operates in the Herrin No. 6 Seam and uses similar mine design and similar equipment as Williamson and Sugar Camp.
Macoupin Mining Complex
The Company's Macoupin mine is owned by its subsidiary, Macoupin Energy LLC (Macoupin). It is located in central Illinois near the town of Carlinville.
The Company competes with Peabody Energy Corporation, Alliance Resource Partners, L.P., Murray Energy Corporation, Armstrong Energy Inc. and Sunrise Coal LLC.
