ORIX Corporation (ORIX), incorporated on March 28, 1950, is a financial services company. The Company operates through six segments: Corporate Financial Services, Maintenance Leasing, Real Estate, Investment and Operation, Retail, and Overseas Business. The Corporate Financial Services segment consists of lending, leasing and fee business. The Maintenance Leasing segment consists of automobile leasing and rentals, car sharing, and test and measurement instruments and information technology-related equipment rentals and leasing. The Real Estate segment consists of real estate development and rental, facility operation, real estate investment trust (REIT) asset management, and real estate investment advisory services. The Investment and Operation segment consists of environment and energy-related business, principal investment and loan servicing (asset recovery). The Retail Segment consists of life insurance, banking and card loan business. The Overseas Business segment consists of leasing, lending, investment in bonds, investment banking, asset management and ship- and aircraft-related operations.
Corporate Financial Services
The Company provides leasing and loans and other products and services to its customer base of domestic small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The Corporate Financial Services segment gathers information on customers and products/services and responds to customer needs, including in connection with business succession and overseas expansion. The Company offers Corporate Financial Services, including finance (leases, installment loans, payment entrustment, lending); property leasing; asset-based lending in partnerships with financial institutions; rental, sales and other services; business to business (B2B) transaction solutions; life insurance, accident insurance and corporate pension consultation services, and investment solutions. ORIX offers services to support corporate customers' capital expenditure, from assets, such as information technology related equipment, store equipment, and machinery through to software and construction expenses. The Company also provides funding, such as loans for purchasing rental real estate properties and for conducting mergers and acquisitions (M&A).
The Company supports corporate store development by leasing land from owners and renting it to tenant companies after constructing a building to tenant specifications. For trucks, buses and other commercial-use vehicles owned by customers, ORIX focuses on appraise of the vehicle value, establish collateral, and offers a debt based on which partner financial institutions then lend operating capital. ORIX's lineup of rental equipment includes measurement equipment, scientific and environmental analysis equipment, information technology related equipment, and medical equipment. ORIX provides a range of payment settlement services for customers and their business partners, such as sales collection services for reducing promissory notes and commercial stores, as well as accounts receivable factoring.
The Company, through its automobile leasing business, engages in leasing, automobile rental and car sharing businesses. The rental business includes information technology related equipment and medical equipment, environmental analysis equipment, as well as tablet computers. The rental business also offers a range of services, such as technical support, sales of software packages, equipment calibration and asset management.
The Company, through its real estate development and rental business, is involved in the development and leasing of properties, including office buildings, commercial properties, logistics centers and residences, asset management and real estate finance. ORIX develops condominiums and detached housing primarily under the Sanctus brand. The facilities operating business involves the operation and development of a portfolio of properties, including hotels, Japanese inns, aquariums, golf courses, training facilities, golf driving ranges and indoor schools, private nursing homes and residential rental properties for seniors.
Investment and Operation
The Company's principal investment business invests in private equity both in Japan and overseas. The loan servicing business invests in non-performing loans and engages in joint operations of business rehabilitation support companies through capital alliances with financial institutions. ORIX is involved in the power generation business using renewable sources, such as solar, biomass, geothermal and wind. ORIX offers services that provide electric power for business operators' factories, office buildings and other facilities. ORIX also offers Bulk Electric Power Purchasing Service. ORIX offers an energy service for households that enables rental of an entire system combining a storage battery with a smart house application. The Company is also engaged in energy conservation, and resources and waste processing business. ORIX also has a metal recycling business that operates an intermediate metals waste processing facility in Chiba Prefecture.
The Company, through its retail business, offers deposits, monetary trusts and real estate investment loans. It offers retail services through ORIX Bank Corporation. ORIX Life Insurance Corporation offers insurance products. ORIX Credit Corporation provides a range of products, such as the ORIX VIP Loan Card, Cardless VIP for Internet transactions and ORIX CLUB CARD for individual business owners. ORIX Bank Corporation provides the ORIX Bank Card Loan.
The Company provides a range of financial services to local businesses and Japanese companies. It covers a spectrum of needs that include machine and equipment leasing, automobile leasing, installment loans, lending and rental, as well as providing finance when customers sell their products overseas. Additional functions include market research, business strategy for support and other consulting services. ORIX conducts business development and investment operations. In Europe and the United States, the Company is involved in finance, investment in marketable securities, M&A advisory, servicing, and asset management. ORIX provides aircraft operating leases to airline companies around the world. The Company also has bulk carriers that transport grain, coal, iron ore and other cargoes, which it uses to operate a ship investment business for chartering ships to ocean transport companies in and out of Japan.
