Mobile TeleSystems Public Joint Stock Company, formerly Mobile TeleSystems Open Joint Stock Company, incorporated on August 22, 2002, is a provider of telecommunications services. The Company provides mobile and fixed line voice and data telecommunications services, including data transfer, broadband, pay-television (pay-TV) and various value-added services, as well as selling equipment and accessories. The Company operates through segments, which include Russia convergent, Moscow fixed line and Ukraine. Its Russia Convergent segment includes mobile and fixed line operations, which encompasses services rendered to customers across regions of Russia, including voice and data services, transmission, broadband, pay-TV and other value-added services. Its Moscow fixed line segment includes fixed line operations carried out in Moscow by the Company's subsidiary MGTS. MGTS holds licenses and regulatory approvals to provide local telephony, interconnect to other operators, Internet, and data transmission and other services. Its Ukraine segment includes mobile and fixed line operations carried out across multiple regions of Ukraine.
The Company has a mobile subscriber base of approximately 102.5 million, including over 77.3 million in Russia, approximately 20.4 million in Ukraine, over 2.1 million in Armenia, approximately 1.6 million in Turkmenistan and over 1.1 million in Uzbekistan. It offers fixed line communications services in approximately 185 cities across Russia.
The Company offers mobile cellular voice and data communication services to its subscribers on the basis of various tariff plans designed for different market segments. Most of its tariff plans combine per minute usage charges, value-added services and, in some cases, monthly network access fees. It offers value-added services, including call divert/forwarding, conference calling, voicemail, general packet radio service (GPRS), call barring, call waiting, international access service, fixed mobile convergence, mobile office, data share plan and itemization of monthly bills. The Company also provides voice and short message services (SMS) based value-added services in cooperation with various content providers.
In addition to cellular communication services, the Company offers corporate clients a range of telecommunications services. Its services include design, construction and installation of local voice and data networks capable of interconnecting with fixed line operators, installation and maintenance of cellular payphones, lease of digital communication channels, access to open computer databases and data networks, including the Internet, and provision of fixed, local and long- distance telecommunications services, as well as video conferencing.
The Company competes with Public Joint Stock Company Vimpel Communications, Public Joint Stock Company MegaFon, Tele2 Russia, Public Joint Stock Company Long-Distance and International Telecommunications Rostelecom, Kyivstar, Akado Group, MegaFon, Er-Telecom, Astelit, Universal Communications, Altyn Asyr and TeliaSonera.
