Rogers Communications Inc., incorporated on September 7, 1977, is a communications and media company. The Company is a provider of wireless communications services, and cable television, Internet, information technology (IT) and telephony services to consumers and businesses. The Company's segments include Wireless, Cable, Business Solutions and Media. The Company offers other services to consumers and businesses, including Rogers Smart Home Monitoring and Smart Business Monitoring, a home or business monitoring, security and automation system, and Rogers Platinum MasterCard and Fido MasterCard, credit cards that allow customers to earn cashback rewards points on credit card spending. Its subsidiaries include Rogers Communications Canada Inc. and Rogers Media Inc. (Rogers Media). Through Rogers Media, the Company is engaged in radio and television broadcasting, sports, televised and online shopping, magazines and digital media.
The Company's Wireless segment is engaged in wireless telecommunications operations for Canadian consumers and businesses. The Company provides wireless voice and data communication services to individual consumers, businesses, governments and other telecommunications service providers. Its wireless network supports wireless services on smartphones, tablets, computers, and a range of machine-to-machine and specialized devices. It provides postpaid and prepaid wireless services under the Rogers, Fido, and chatr brands, and provides consumers and businesses with the wireless devices, services, and applications, including mobile and fixed high-speed Internet access; wireless voice and enhanced voice features; wireless home phone; device protection; text messaging; e-mail; global voice and data roaming, including Roam Like Home and Fido Roam; bridging landline phones with wireless phones, and machine-to-machine solutions.
The Company's Cable segment include cable telecommunications operations, including Internet, television and telephony (phone) services for Canadian consumers and businesses. The Company provides high-speed Internet, television and voice communication services to consumers, businesses, governments, and wholesale resellers, leveraging its fiber and hybrid fiber-coaxial network infrastructure in Ontario, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador. Its Internet services include Internet access (including basic and unlimited usage packages), security solutions, and e-mail; access speeds of up to one gigabit per second (Gbps), and plans available under both the Rogers and Fido brands. Its television services include on-demand television; personal video recorders (PVRs); linear and time-shifted programming, and digital specialty channels. Its phone services include residential and small business local telephony service, and calling features, such as voicemail, call waiting and long distance.
The Company's Business Solutions segment is engaged in network connectivity through its fiber network and data center assets to support a range of voice, data, networking, hosting, and cloud-based services for the enterprise, public sector and carrier wholesale markets. It offers various services, which include voice, data networking, Internet protocol (IP) and Ethernet services; optical wave, Internet, Ethernet, and multi-protocol label switching services; managed wireless fidelity (WiFi), which allows customers to remotely monitor their networks at any site and view network performance analytics through a Web portal; Rogers Public Cloud, which enables businesses to manage their IT infrastructure in the cloud, and extensive wireless and cable access networks services for primary, bridging and back-up connectivity.
The Company's Media segment has a portfolio of media properties, including sports media and entertainment, television and radio broadcasting, specialty channels, multi-platform shopping, digital media, and publishing. In Television, the Company operates various conventional and specialty television networks: Sportsnet's four regional stations, Sportsnet ONE, Sportsnet 360 and Sportsnet World; OMNI multicultural broadcast television stations; specialty channels that include FX (Canada), FXX (Canada), Outdoor Life Network, VICELAND and G4 Canada, and The Shopping Channel (TSC), a televised shopping channel. In Radio, the Company operates approximately 50 amplitude modulation (AM) and frequency modulation (FM) radio stations in markets across Canada, including popular radio brands, such as 680 NEWS, Sportsnet The FAN, KiSS, JACK FM and SONiC. Its services and products include digital sports-related assets, including Rogers National Hockey League (NHL) GameCentre LIVE and Sportsnet NOW; consumer brands, such as Maclean's, Chatelaine, Today's Parent, Flare and Hello! Canada, and Texture by Next Issue, its digital magazine service. In Sports Media and Entertainment, it owns the Toronto Blue Jays, a Major League Baseball (MLB) team, and the Rogers Centre event venue, which hosts the Toronto Blue Jays' home games, concerts, trade shows and special events.
