RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd., incorporated on June 7, 1993, provides reinsurance and insurance coverages and related services to a range of customers. The Company's products include property, casualty and specialty reinsurance and certain insurance products principally distributed through intermediaries. The Company's segments include Property; Casualty and Specialty, and Other category. The Property segment consisted of catastrophe and other property reinsurance and insurance written on behalf of its operating subsidiaries and certain joint ventures managed by its ventures unit. The Casualty and Specialty segment consisted of casualty and specialty reinsurance and insurance written on behalf of its operating subsidiaries and certain joint ventures managed by its ventures unit. Its Other category primarily includes its strategic investments, investments unit, corporate expenses, capital servicing.

Property segment

Property segment includes its catastrophe class of business, principally consisted of excess of loss reinsurance and excess of loss retrocessional reinsurance to insure insurance and reinsurance companies against natural and man-made catastrophes, and its other property class of business, primarily consisted of proportional reinsurance, property per risk, property (re)insurance, binding facilities and regional United States multi-line reinsurance. The Company writes catastrophe reinsurance and insurance coverage protecting against natural catastrophes, such as earthquakes, hurricanes and tsunamis, as well as claims arising from other natural and man-made catastrophes, such as winter storms, freezes, floods, fires, windstorms, tornadoes, explosions and acts of terrorism. The Company offers this coverage to insurance companies and other reinsurers primarily on an excess of loss basis. It also offers proportional coverages and other structures on a catastrophe-exposed basis.

Casualty and Specialty Segment

The Company writes casualty and specialty reinsurance and insurance covering primarily targeted classes of business. The Company offers its casualty and specialty reinsurance products principally on a proportional basis, and it also provides excess of loss coverage. Its Casualty and Specialty segment provides coverage for relatively large limits or exposures. Casualty and Specialty segment offers certain casualty insurance products through RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458 (Syndicate 1458), including general liability, medical malpractice and professional liability. Syndicate 1458 also writes business through delegated authority arrangements.


The Company's Other category primarily includes the results of its share of investments in certain markets. It also includes the results of its investment unit, which manages and invests the funds generated by its consolidated operations.
