Sasol Limited, incorporated on June 26, 1979, is an international integrated chemicals and energy company. The Company develops and commercializes technologies, and builds and operates facilities to produce a range of product streams, including liquid fuels, chemicals and low-carbon electricity. The Company's operating business units include Mining and, Exploration and Production International. Its Strategic Business Units are energy, base chemicals, performance chemicals and group functions. The Company's regional operating hubs include Southern Africa Operations and International Operations.

Operating Business Units

The Company operates approximately six coal mines that supply feedstock for its Secunda (Sasol Synfuels) and Sasolburg (Sasolburg Operations) complexes in South Africa. While the coal it supplies to Sasol Synfuels is used as gasification feedstock, some is used to generate electricity. The coal supplied by the Company to the Sasolburg Operations is used to generate electricity and steam. The Company also exports coal from the Twistdraai Export Plant to international power generation customers. Its underground mining operations are at Bosjesspruit, Brandspruit, Middelbult, Syferfontein and Twistdraai (all in the Secunda area) and Sigma (near Sasolburg). Sasol Mining extracts approximately 40 million tons (Mts) of saleable coal per annum. Sasol Mining also exports over 2.8 Mts of coal per annum to Europe, the Far East and other international customers.

Sasol Exploration and Production International (SEPI) develops and manages the Company's upstream interests in oil and gas exploration and production in Mozambique, South Africa, Canada, Gabon and Australia. The Company is investing in ventures ranging from onshore and offshore conventional and unconventional shale and tight gas. The Company has processed gas from the Pande and Temane fields in a Central Processing Facility (CPF) and transported it through an 8.5-kilometer pipeline to gas markets in South Africa and Mozambique. In Gabon, SEPI has approximately 27.75% interest in the Etame Marin Permit. In the exploration license AC/P 52 in the Browse Basin offshore north-western Australia, SEPI holds over 45% interest. It has also converted a Technical Co-operation Permit Offshore Durban and Zululand basins to an Exploration Right (ER 236). The ER 236 Exploration Right has an area of over 82,117 square kilometers in water depths ranging from 50 to 3,200 meters. Its Exploration and Production International business unit's products include natural gas, and oil.

Strategic Business Units

The Company's Energy Business manages the marketing and sales of all oil, gas and electricity products in Southern Africa. The Southern Africa Energy cluster is focused on the Company's commercial, and research and development activities in the energy arena. The marketing and sales activities for its gas, electricity and liquid fuels products across Southern Africa are housed in the Southern Africa Energy Business. The Company's fuels business encompasses liquid fuels, bitumen, heating fuels and lubricants marketing activities of the Company through its wholesale, commercial and retailing interests. It offers market ready fuels and oils, such as bitumen; industrial heating fuels; naphtha, and illuminating paraffin transport fuels, (petrol, diesel and jet fuels); lubricants and lubricant base oils; liquefied petroleum gas (LPG); automotive lubricants; industrial lubricants; greases; cleansers and degreasers; automotive fuels, and burner fuels.

The Company markets and distributes Mozambique-produced natural gas and Secunda-produced methane-rich gas to customers in South Africa. Its gas products include methane rich gas and natural gas. The Company is also focused on preparing for the commissioning and commercial operation of its 175-megawatt (MW) Mozambican gas engine project. The Company's International Energy is responsible for developing, implementing and managing international ventures based on its technology. It is engaged in progressing gas-to-liquids (GTL) projects in Canada, (feasibility), the United States (feasibility), Nigeria, and has stable operations at ORYX GTL in Qatar. International energy is also involved in pre-feasibility studies for a GTL project in Mozambique and for a coal-to-liquid (CTL) project in India.

The Company's Chemical business comprises base chemicals and performance chemicals. Its Chemicals Business includes the marketing and sales of all chemical products, both in southern Africa and internationally. Its Base Chemicals business is a producer and marketer of a range of commodity chemicals based on the Fischer Tropsch (FT) and natural gas value chains, including chemical feedstocks of ethane, ethylene, propylene and ammonia. Its final products include explosives, fertilizers, polymers (polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinylchloride), mining reagents (caustic soda, sodium cyanide), and a range of alcohols, ketones, acrylate monomers, and other oxygenated solvents. Its Performance Chemicals division markets a portfolio of organic and inorganic commodity and specialty chemicals. It operates in four business divisions: Organics, Inorganics & Catalyst, Wax, and Phenolics, Carbon, Ammonia and Speciality Gases (PCASG). The Performance Chemicals business has locations in Germany, Italy, Slovakia, the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, Poland, Austria, Russia, the United States, Brazil, South Africa, Egypt, Dubai, China, Singapore, Japan and Germany.

The Organics Division is a producer of linear alkyl benzene (LAB), fatty alcohols and short-chain linear alpha olefins as well as one of the major surfactant producers in Europe. It offers its customers portfolios of C6 plus (C6+) alcohols and surfactant derivatives across the world that is complemented by a range of specialty chemicals, including heat-transfer fluids, phase change materials (PCMs) and high-purity triethylaluminum. Its Inorganics & Catalyst Chemicals Division produces high-purity and ultra-high-purity synthetic specialty aluminas and related products, such as silica-aluminas, hydrotalcites and spinels, and selected shaped carrier materials for catalytic applications. The Wax Division develops and produces a range of mineral oil-based and synthetic paraffin waxes, as well as petroleum jellies. The PCASG Division comprises the Phenolics, Carbon and Ammonia, and Specialty Gases sub-divisions.

Its Phenolics sub-division manufactures and markets specialty chemical products derived from the Company's and other suppliers' phenolic feedstock. It offers cresylic acids, consisting of phenol, mixed cresols, high-purity ortho-, meta- and para-cresol, mixed xylenols and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). The Carbon sub-division supplies carbon solutions, such as coal-based low sulfur green coke, calcined coke and waxy oil coke products. The Company's Ammonia and Specialty Gases sub-division produces ammonia, hydrogen and carbon dioxide (CO2), as well as liquid nitrogen, liquid argon, krypton and xenon from its air separation units.
