Telefonica, S.A., incorporated on April 19, 1924, is an integrated and diversified telecommunications group operating in Europe and Latin America. The Company's services and products include Mobile business, Fixed-line telephony business and Digital services. The Company's segments include Telefonica Spain, Telefonica Brazil, Telefonica Germany, Telefonica United Kingdom and Telefonica Hispanoamerica (formed by the Company's operators in Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Mexico, Venezuela and Central America, Ecuador and Uruguay). These segments are engaged in activities relating to wireline, wireless, cable, data, Internet and television (TV) businesses and other digital services in accordance with each location.
The Company offers a range of mobile and related services and products to personal and business customers. Its principal services and products include mobile voice services; value added services, including voice mail, call hold, call waiting, call forwarding and three-way calling; mobile data and Internet services, which include short messaging services (SMS) and multimedia messaging services (MMS); wholesale services; corporate services, including mobile infrastructure in offices, private networking and portals for corporate customers that provide online billing; roaming, which allows its customers to use their mobile handsets when they are outside their service territories, including on an international basis; fixed wireless, which provides fixed voice telephony through mobile networks in Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina, Peru, Mexico, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua, and trunking and paging, which provides digital mobile services for closed user groups of clients and paging services in Spain and most of its operations in Latin America.
Fixed-line telephony business
The services offered by the Company in its fixed businesses in Europe and Latin America include traditional fixed telecommunication services, Internet and broadband multimedia services, data and business-solutions services, and wholesale services for telecommunication operators. The Company's traditional fixed telecommunication services include public switched telephone network (PSTN) lines, integrated services digital network (ISDN) accesses, public telephone services, corporate communications services, supplementary value added services, video telephony, business oriented value-added services, intelligent network services, leasing and sale of handset equipment, and telephony information services. Its Internet and broadband multimedia services include Internet service provider service, portal and network services, retail and wholesale broadband access through asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL), naked ADSL (broadband connection without the monthly fixed line fee), narrowband switched access to Internet for universal service and other technologies. It also offers high-speed Internet services through fiber to the home (FTTH) in various markets, including Spain, Brazil and Chile, and very-high-data-rate digital subscriber line (VDSL)-based services primarily in Spain and Germany. It also offers voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) services in certain markets.
The Company's data and business solutions services include leased lines; virtual private network (VPN) services; fiber optics services; the provision of hosting and application (ASP) service, including Web hosting, managed hosting, content delivery and application and security services; outsourcing and consultancy services, including network management (CGP), and desktop services and system integration and professional services. The Company's wholesale services for telecommunication operators include domestic interconnection services, international wholesale services, leased lines for other operators' network deployment and local loop leasing under the unbundled local loop regulation framework. It also includes bit stream services, bit stream naked, wholesale line rental accesses and leased ducts for other operators' fiber deployment.
The Company offers a range of digital services, such as video/tv services, Internet of Things (IoT), financial services and other payment services, security services, cloud computing services, advertising and big data. Its video/tv services include Internet protocol television (IPTV) services (Internet protocol), over-the-top network television services, and cable and satellite television. In certain markets, the Company offers Pay TV services, such as high-definition television (HDTV); multi-room, which allows clients to watch a range of television channels in different rooms, and digital video recording (DVR). In addition, the Company offers accessible content with subtitles, audio description and sign language functionalities through the Movistar+ 5s service. Its Global IoT portfolio services include Smart Connectivity, Smart Services and Personal IoT. The Company's financial services and other payment services allow final customers and financial institutions to make and receive payments. Its security services offer a range of facilities and services, which include Managed Security, Cloud and Comms Security and cyber security. Its financial services and other payment services focuses on protecting information stored in different end customers' devices and networks from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption or destruction. The Company's big data services include the product, Smart Steps, which helps retailers, municipalities and public security bodies to understand the influx of people.
