Telenor ASA, incorporated on October 6, 2000, is a telecommunication company. The Company's segments include Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Hungary, Bulgaria, Montenegro & Serbia, dtac-Thailand, Digi-Malaysia, Grameenphone-Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Myanmar, Broadcast and Other units. The Company's main products and services are mobile communication, fixed line communication and broadcasting activities. The Company's mobile communication business mainly includes voice, data, Internet, content services, customer equipment and messaging. Its fixed services comprise telephony, Internet and television, leased lines, leased lines, as well as data services and managed services. Its broadcast activities comprise Canal Digital DTH in the Nordics, satellite broadcasting and terrestrial radio and television transmission in Norway and Belgium. Its Other units consist of International wholesale, Telenor Digital, corporate functions and others. Telenor Digital includes companies operating within international communication services, machine to machine communication, as well as Internet-based services, and financial services. Corporate Functions comprise activities, such as real estate, global shared services, research and development, strategic Company projects, Company Treasury, the internal insurance company and support functions. Others include mainly mobile communication business at sea conducted by Maritime Communication Partner.
The Company operates in approximately seven European countries and over six countries in Asia. The operations in Norway, Denmark and Sweden offer fixed telecommunication services in addition to mobile services. It offers fourth generation (4G) services in Norway and Sweden. The Company provides mobile services in Hungary, Serbia, Montenegro and Bulgaria. It offers third generation (3G) services in Serbia, Hungary, Montenegro and Russia. In Serbia, the Company also has a license for fixed line operations. The Company has an interest in VimpelCom Ltd., which offers mobile services in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Armenia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Algeria, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Zimbabwe and Italy.
Telenor Norway provides tele and data services. The Company's service portfolio in Norway includes fixed and mobile telephony, broadband and data communication services for residential and business customers, as well as a range of wholesale services.
Telenor Sweden is a mobile operator. It provides fixed broadband services to the consumer market in Sweden. Telenor Sweden is a full-scale convergent telecom provider in the Swedish business and consumer markets. Telenor Sweden provides several voice and data services to both business and consumer customers, covered through a range of wireless, fixed and broadband technologies.
Telenor Denmark is a mobile operator and fixed broadband operator in Denmark. Its service portfolio in Denmark includes mobile, fixed and broadband services.
Telenor Serbia is a mobile operator. Telenor Serbia offers voice and non-voice services to subscribers on both a prepaid and contract basis. Telenor Serbia offers Platimo, where customers can pay their Telenor bills, top up prepaid accounts, authenticate transactions and transfer money.
Telenor Montenegro is a mobile operator. Telenor Montenegro offers mobile voice, roaming, value-added services and mobile data services.
Telenor Hungary is a mobile operator. Telenor Hungary offers mobile and broadband services.
Telenor Bulgaria is a mobile operator. Telenor Bulgaria's telecom services include mobile, fixed and data.
dtac is a mobile operator in Thailand. dtac offers mobile services to its customers through contract and prepaid tariff plans.
DiGi is a mobile operator in Malaysia. DiGi offers mobile voice, roaming and value-added services on both prepaid and contract bases. DiGi is offering its customers the ability to purchase personal accident insurance. The DiGiREMIT service allows international fund transfers in a secure manner through mobile phone.
Telenor India provides mobile services in over six Indian telecom circles. Telenor India offers Telenor Suraksha, which provides life insurance to low and middle-income customers.
Telenor Pakistan is a mobile operator in Pakistan. Telenor Pakistan, through the service easypaisa, offers bill payment, domestic and international remittance, as well as savings and insurance.
Grameenphone is a mobile provider in Bangladesh. Grameenphone offers core voice services and various value-added services on both a contract and prepaid basis. Grameenphone offers around the clock medical call center. It provides Studyline, a call center-based service providing education related information; Mobicash for electronic purchase of train tickets; Billpay for paying bills through mobile phones, and over 500 community information centers across Bangladesh.
Telenor Broadcast is a provider of direct-to-home (DTH) television in the Nordic region. Telenor Broadcast also provides terrestrial transmission services and satellite services. Telenor Broadcast business area comprises business lines, including Canal Digital DTH, Satellite Broadcasting, Norkring and Other. Telenor Broadcast provides television and broadcasting services to households and enterprises in the Nordic region, measured by subscribers and revenues through its business-to-consumer (B2C) entertainment company, Canal Digital. Canal Digital offers over 130 television channels to end customers. Norkring develops, builds and operates the digital terrestrial network for television and radio in Norway and Belgium. Norkring provides transmissions networks for television and radio. Norkring also offers services within Site management, Medianet and colocation. Telenor Satellite delivers television broadcasting services across Europe. Telenor Satellite Broadcasting owns and operates satellites, THOR 5, THOR 6 and THOR 7, as well as owning high powered capacity on the Intelsat 10-02 satellite. Other comprises activities related to Telenor Media Invest (TMI). TMI's purpose is to manage and develop the Company's minority ownership positions in a set of Nordic media companies. TMI consists of consolidated companies, Telenor Media Invest AS in Norway and Danmarks Digital TV AS in Denmark, as well as the associated companies Amedia AS, RiksTV AS and Norges Televisjon AS.
In addition to its own telephony and broadcast services, the Company has substantial activities in subsidiaries and joint venture operations as part of its business. Telenor Common Operation is a technology service provider delivering network and IT services to its business units. Telenor Connexion is a provider of connected business solutions. Telenor Maritime is a maritime telecommunications operator focused on providing global system for mobile communication (GSM) and code division multiple access (CDMA) communications solutions. Telenor Global Wholesale is an international mobile carrier focusing on wholesale voice services, and mobile and connectivity services. Telenor Eiendom Holding AS (Telenor Real Estate) is a property management company.
