The Company markets supplemental health insurance products through various distribution channels, including United American Independent Agency, Liberty National Exclusive Agency, American Income Exclusive Agency, Family Heritage Exclusive Agency and Direct Response. The United American Independent Agency consists of independent agencies appointed with Torchmark who may also sell for other companies. The Family Heritage Exclusive Agency primarily markets limited-benefit supplemental health insurance in non-urban areas. The Company's annuity products include single-premium and flexible-premium deferred annuities. The Company does not market annuity products, favoring instead protection-oriented life and health insurance products.
The Company manages its capital resources, including investments, debt and cash flow through the investment segment. It also has investments in equity securities and other long-term investments. Torchmark classifies all of its fixed maturity investments, which include bonds and redeemable preferred stocks, as available for sale. Torchmark's investments in fixed maturities are primarily composed of security types, including corporate securities, state and municipal securities, redeemable preferred stocks and the United States Government securities.
